So it was the last of the soccer games Saturday for Hyrum & Bryan, a make-up game from a high wind day in October. Jim and I were watching the game (they're real exciting at this age) when we noticed Hyrum was not on the field. It was second quarter and our team was playing with only 10 players on the field. We had been watching Bryan and he was doing pretty good. I saw Hyrum sitting out on the sideline across the field. Riley perceived that he was sad. At half time he came limping across the field. He told us his foot hurt and took his shoe and sock off to show me. It looked like a lump on the side of his foot. We debated about what his injury might be. He wanted to stay and finish watching the game.
During the game another player got hurt and all the players on the field stopped to kneel to recognize this. Jim mentioned how well trained they were to do that and Hyrum noted, "Yeah if they notice it." He had tripped over an opponent's foot and in catching himself bent his ankle inward. He tried to keep playing but it was hurting too much. That is when he quietly disappeared from the game. Probably the only game of the season that he didn't score a goal. At the end of the game he hopped across the field to cheer the other team. Then I took him to the clinic. Yeah, our small town has a walk-in clinic now, open on Saturday 9 am to 1 pm. We were in luck. The doctor was in, no waiting, took an x-ray and whoa, a broken piece of bone off his foot. Hyrum thought the x-ray of his foot was way cool, so did I. He was immediately on his cell phone calling dad to tell him "I told ya so" as the doctor was putting his foot in a splint. He was counting the 4-6weeks to heal to make sure he'd have enough time to train for track. He was glad it was the last game of the season, and didn't forget to ask for a P.E. excuse. He was disappointed his Saturday afternoon plans of an airsoft war with his friend, Jeff, wouldn't be happening. Playstation at Jeff's house had to substitute later.

Poor kid! I hope it heals quickly for track. That sounds painful.
